Are you looking for a crisp, hard apple taste to get you in the fall mood? Look no further than the nation’s capital for cider.

The DC area offers a range of ciders, including sweet, gluten-free and dry. Local cideries also offer unique varieties that you’re not likely to find anywhere else. So, hop on the cider trail in the DMV and prepare for an overload of flavor and refreshment. DC also features an array of beer gardens, rooftop bars and outdoor patios for you to check out.

Anxo Cidery & Tasting Room

Anxo (pronounced an-cho) offers unique ciders on draft as well as delicious pizzas from Brightwood Pizza. Inventory is available online and at bars and restaurants around the city, but trust us, you'll want to go to their brick-and-mortar location for a satisfying meal and a dry cider.

Distillery Lane Ciderworks

The first licensed cidery in Maryland, Distillery Lane in Jefferson sits on a 95-acre historic farm that dates back to the Civil War. The ciders refrain from sweetness but instead deliver refreshment and are naturally tart and aromatic. Distillery Lane is open for customers each fall. In the meantime, you can find their ciders at St. Anselm, Right Proper, The Line Hotel, Hotel Hive, Red Bear Brewing and Lost and Found.

Willow Oaks Craft Cider

Located on a 35-acre farm in Middletown, Md., Willow Oaks offers small batch, barrel-fermented cider. Its acclaimed flavors are handcrafted from organic fruit and totally unfiltered. Willow Oaks is open Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lost Boy Cider

Established in 2019 in Alexandria, Va., Lost Boy Cider offers fermented refreshments made with all-natural ingredients including hops, cranberries, pineapples and spices. Cider slushies are available for the hotter days and the kids can sip on non-alcoholic cider.

Corcoran Vineyards & Cidery

Corcoran, located in Loudoun County, opened in 2004 with a specialty in hand-crafted ciders and Port-style wines. The carbonated, refreshing and crisp cider served at Corcoran is entirely gluten-free. The family-owned property makes for an ideal fall visit.

Mt. Defiance Cidery & Distillery

With a cider barn and distillery, Mt. Defiance serves up the refreshment in style in historic Middleburg, Va. The locale mixes classic and craft cider flavors, including ginger and honey-infused varieties. You can also indulge in delicious spirits, including absinthe, apple brandy and bourbon whiskey.
